The Serial ATA USB 3.0 M.2 NGFF SSD External Case is a compact enclosure designed to convert a compatible SATA-based M.2 NGFF SSD into a portable external storage drive. It provides a practical way to reuse an existing M.2 SSD for file transfers, backups, additional storage, data access, and other everyday storage applications without installing the drive internally in a computer.

The enclosure supports SATA-based M.2 NGFF SSDs with compatible B Key or B+M Key configurations. It is designed to accommodate common M.2 form factors including 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280, making it suitable for a range of SATA M.2 drives. It is important to note that this type of enclosure is intended for SATA-bus M.2 SSDs and is not compatible with PCIe NVMe or M-Key-only M.2 SSDs.

Using a USB 3.0 interface, the enclosure provides high-speed connectivity for transferring files between the installed SSD and a compatible computer or other USB-enabled device. USB 3.0 supports transfer rates of up to 5Gbps at the interface level, while the SATA III drive interface supports up to 6Gbps. Actual performance depends on the installed SSD, USB port, cable, and connected device.

The aluminum alloy enclosure provides a lightweight and portable housing while helping dissipate heat generated during SSD operation. Its compact construction makes it convenient to carry with a laptop or other devices, while plug-and-play and hot-swap support allow compatible systems to recognize the enclosure without requiring additional driver installation.

The enclosure is suitable for everyday storage tasks such as backing up important files, transferring documents and media, accessing data from an older M.2 SATA drive, or turning an unused internal SSD into a portable external drive. Its USB-powered design eliminates the need for a separate power adapter, making it a convenient solution for mobile and desktop storage applications.
