The
eSUN ASA+ Cold White 1.75mm 1kg 3D Printer Filament is an advanced engineering-grade thermoplastic filament synthesized from Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) and modified with impact-toughening additives for demanding outdoor, functional, and architectural 3D printing applications. Structurally superior to standard ABS in harsh environments, ASA+ replaces butadiene rubber with an acrylic elastomer matrix that provides exceptional resistance to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation, atmospheric aging, and environmental stress cracking. Featuring high thermal deflection resistance (up to ~96°C), excellent interlayer adhesion, and a bright, non-yellowing opaque cold white finish, this filament produces rugged, weather-proof end-use parts that maintain their mechanical strength and clean, brilliant color under long-term direct sunlight.

Features
- Superior UV & Weathering Resistance: Unlike white ABS, which quickly turns yellow, brittle, and chalky under direct sun exposure due to butadiene degradation, the acrylic rubber core in ASA+ provides permanent UV stability and prevents discoloration.
- High Thermal Deflection: Withstands elevated environmental temperatures up to ~95°C without deformation or creep, making it suitable for automotive interiors, engine bay brackets, and outdoor enclosures.
- Reduced Warping Formulation: Modified with anti-shrinkage polymers that reduce the high thermal contraction coefficient typical of standard ABS, lowering corner curl on enclosed beds.
- Easy Post-Processing & Vapor Smoothing: Readily soluble in acetone, allowing parts to be vapor-smoothed into a glass-like glossy finish or chemically welded using acetone-based slurry.
- Anti-Static Surface Behavior: Generates lower surface triboelectric charges than standard plastics, significantly reducing ambient dust accumulation on outdoor sensors and exterior casings.
Common Applications
- Outdoor IoT & Weather Station Enclosures: Protective housings, radiation shields (Stevenson screens), solar sensor mounts, and camera housings that reflect solar heat and resist weathering.
- Automotive Exterior & Interior Parts: Printing custom side-mirror covers, roof-rack brackets, bumper trim clips, sensor bezels, and dashboard gauge pods exposed to high sun and heat.
- Marine & Boating Hardware: Custom deck fixtures, fishing rod holders, drain fittings, and instrument bezels resistant to saltwater spray and UV breakdown.
- Architectural Facades & Exterior Signage: Exterior building fixtures, channel letter casings, and mounting brackets requiring a long-lasting, bright white appearance.
- Industrial Tooling & Jigs: Functional factory assembly fixtures, pipe clamps, chemical-resistant fluid transfer brackets, and heavy-duty switch covers.
Usage Tips
- Enclosure & Draft Control (CRITICAL):
- Print ASA+ strictly inside an enclosed 3D printer to maintain ambient air temperatures around 40°C to 60°C.
- Cold drafts or rapid room air temperature fluctuations will cause immediate thermal stress shrinkage, resulting in layer delamination, corner lifting, or parts popping off the build sheet. Keep the cooling fan set to 0% (or max 10%–20% for small overhangs/bridges).
- Bed Adhesion Preparation:
- Set bed temperature to 90°C to 105°C on a textured PEI plate.
- For smooth PEI, glass, or bare build plates, apply a thin layer of specialized bed adhesive (such as PVP glue stick, Magigoo, or ABS/ASA slurry) to promote adhesion during printing and act as a release barrier when cooled.
- Filament Drying & Moisture Sensitivity:
- ASA is moderately hygroscopic and absorbs atmospheric moisture, causing nozzle popping (micro-steam explosions), stringing, and weakened layer lamination.
- If the spool has been unsealed or exposed to humid workshop air, dry the spool in an active filament dryer at 70°C to 80°C for 4 to 6 hours prior to printing. Store in a vacuum-sealed bag with desiccant when not in use.
- Acetone Vapor Smoothing: To achieve a high-gloss, injection-molded appearance and hermetic water sealing, suspend the finished print inside an airtight smoothing chamber with a light acetone vapor mist for 15 to 30 minutes. Always perform vapor smoothing in a well-ventilated space away from open sparks or flame.
- Ventilation & Fume Filtration: While ASA emits lower styrene emissions than raw ABS, it does off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ultra-fine particles at extrusion temperatures (>250°C). Operate the printer in a well-ventilated area or utilize an enclosure equipped with an active carbon and HEPA filtration unit (e.g., Nevermore filter).
