The 48MP Main Camera: A Massive High-Resolution Upgrade

The iPhone 15 brings flagship-grade photography to the standard lineup with a monumental 48-megapixel Main camera. Powered by an advanced quad-pixel sensor, it captures photos in super-high-resolution 24MP by default—giving you twice the detail of previous generations while keeping file sizes practical for easy sharing and storage. With its wide ƒ/1.6 aperture and sensor-shift optical image stabilization, low-light photos and action shots stay remarkably bright, sharp, and steady. Driven by the A16 Bionic chip, the Main camera also automatically captures depth data whenever you frame a person, dog, or cat, making it effortless to transform standard photos into stunning portraits after the fact.

A Built-In 2x Optical-Quality Telephoto

Thanks to the high-resolution 48MP sensor, the Main camera introduces a virtual 2x Telephoto lens at a 52mm focal length. By cropping the central 12 megapixels of the sensor, it delivers crisp, full-resolution 12MP photos and 4K video with zero optical loss—giving you the flexibility of three zoom levels (0.5x, 1x, 2x) on a dual-camera setup.

Next-Generation Automatic Portraits

Forget manually switching modes. When you take a photo of a subject—whether human or pet—or tap to focus, the Main camera automatically gathers rich depth information. You can immediately view your shot as a portrait with a beautiful background blur, or tweak the focus point and depth of field later in the Photos app.

Photonic Engine & Smart HDR 5

Powered by Smart HDR 5 and Apple’s Photonic Engine, the Main camera balances bright highlights and deep shadows with lifelike accuracy. For video, it captures 4K Dolby Vision HDR footage, features Action mode for gimbal-like stabilization during heavy movement, and records Cinematic mode in film-grade 4K at 30 fps.
