The MQ2 Gas Sensor is useful for gas leakage detection in homes and industries. It can detect LPG, i-butane, methane, alcohol, hydrogen, smoke, and so on. Based on its fast response time,. Measurements can be taken as soon as possible. Also, the sensitivity can be adjusted by the potentiometer.

The MQ2 gas sensor can detect gas concentrations anywhere from 200 to 10000 ppm. The MQ2 sensor is very sensitive to propane, hydrogen, methane, and LPG.

The MQ series of gas sensors uses a small heater inside with an electro-chemical sensor. They are sensitive to a range of gases and are used indoors at room temperature.

The sensitive material of the MQ2 gas sensor is SnO2, which has lower conductivity in clean air. When the target gas exists, the sensor’s conductivity is higher, along with the gas concentration. The MQ2 sensor could be used to detect different combustible gases,especially methane. It is very low-cost and suitable for different applications. This sensor can be used to make a wireless gas leak detector in a home security system.

Connections:

Connecting five volts across the heating (H) pins keeps the sensor hot enough to function correctly. Connecting five volts at either the A or B pins causes the sensor to emit an analog voltage on the other pins. A resistive load between the output pins and ground sets the sensitivity of the detector.
