The MUR3020PT is a dual-chip, center-tap ultra-fast recovery power rectifier diode housed in a heavy-duty TO-247 (TO-218 / TO-3P compatible) through-hole package. Specifically designed for low-voltage, high-frequency switch-mode power conversion, the MUR3020PT features a repetitive peak reverse voltage rating of 200V, a total continuous forward current capacity of 30A (15A per diode leg), low forward voltage drop, and an ultra-fast reverse recovery time (trr) of 35ns. It is widely used in high-efficiency switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), low-voltage solar inverters, battery chargers, DC-DC step-down converters, and freewheeling diode circuits.

- Low Forward Voltage Drop (0.85V at 150°C): Minimizes conduction power loss and reduces thermal stress under high continuous output currents.
- Dual Common Cathode Design: Integrates two matched 15A diodes sharing a common center cathode to simplify secondary full-wave center-tapped rectification.
- High Junction Temperature Rating (175°C): Delivers robust thermal stability and reliability under demanding high-power industrial operating conditions.
- Glass Passivated High-Temperature Junction: Ensures low reverse leakage current and superior avalanche withstand characteristics over time.
- Heavy-Duty Power Package: TO-247/TO-218 casing provides direct heatsink mounting for efficient heat dissipation in high-wattage power supplies.
Common Applications
- High-Efficiency SMPS Secondary Rectification: Secondary output rectification in 12V, 24V, and 48V ATX power supplies, server supplies, and industrial DC units.
- Low-Voltage Solar Inverters & UPS Systems: High-frequency output rectification and energy recovery in renewable power systems.
- Fast Battery Chargers: High-current AC-DC rectification stages for lithium-ion and lead-acid battery fast charging systems.
- DC-DC Buck & Boost Converters: Fast freewheeling catch diode in step-down and step-up switching regulator modules.
- Motor Drives & Solenoid Clamping: Freewheeling suppression across inductive coils, brushed DC motors, and actuators.
Usage Tips
- Thermal Heatsink Attachment: Always mount the tab securely to an adequately sized aluminum heatsink using thermal grease; use an insulating silicone/mica pad and bushing if the heatsink must remain electrically isolated from the center Cathode.
- Parallel Leg Operation: If using as a single-channel diode for up to 30A continuous current, tie Pin 1 (Anode 1) and Pin 3 (Anode 2) together on the PCB.
- Voltage Margin & Derating: For long-term reliability in high-speed switching circuits, operate within 50% to 60% of the 200V peak reverse voltage rating to protect against inductive turn-off voltage spikes.
- PCB Trace Layout: Keep loop areas between the transformer secondary winding, the MUR3020PT leads, and the output smoothing capacitors minimal to reduce stray inductance and parasitic ringing.
