The Samsung 990 EVO is a hybrid NVMe SSD that can operate as either a four-lane (x4) PCIe 4.0 drive or a two-lane (x2) PCIe 5.0 drive, negotiating automatically based on the motherboard it is installed in. Both modes deliver the same theoretical bandwidth, so the drive performs consistently whether used in an older PCIe 4.0 system or a newer PCIe 5.0 one.
